Where Does Our Coffee Come From? – The Journey Behind Every Cup
Every coffee has a story
When we take a sip of coffee, we rarely think about how far it has travelled before reaching us. Yet the story of coffee begins long before the beans arrive at a roastery or coffee machine.
The climate, soil, altitude and many other environmental factors of the growing region all influence the character of the coffee.
From processing to roasting
After the coffee cherries are harvested, they are processed. There are several different processing methods, and each can have an influence on the final flavour profile.
The beans are then roasted. The goal of the roaster is to find the right balance and highlight the unique characteristics of each coffee.
The final step: preparation
The journey of coffee comes together during preparation. Grind size, water temperature, brewing time and the chosen preparation method can all influence the final result.
This is one of the things that makes specialty coffee so exciting: the same coffee can reveal different characteristics depending on how it is prepared.
